In conclusion, our study showed that TRPV2 expression was significantly increased in the epithelial lens tissue of patients with diabetic cataracts, and that enhanced ROS induced lens epithelial cell apoptosis by upregulating TRPV2 expression and TRPV2-mediated Ca2+ overload in an HG environment, suggesting that TRPV2 may be one of key ion channels mediating Ca2+ influx in lens epithelial cells, and may provide a potential therapeutic target for diabetic or HG-induced cataracts. Here, TRPV2 is linked to cataract.
