TP53 and liver cancer: In contrast to the protective roles of mitophagy in liver cancer, the activation of mitophagy by CCCP in hepatic cells has been shown to promote the development of liver cancer by repressing p53 phosphorylation at Ser392 and maintaining the stemness of cancer stem cells (CSCs) [86], suggesting that the induction of hepatic mitophagy may not be an ideal treatment for liver cancer.
