The CD205-PgtE interaction, similar to the CD205-Pla interaction (32), may allow the infected APCs to function as Trojan Horses, to promote dissemination within mammalian hosts and infection of Y. pestis. These results provide additional evidence to suggest that Pla in Y. pestis might have originated from PgtE in S. enterica. Finally, this study was initially focused on Y. pestis, which may however uncover for the first time one of molecular mechanisms of how S. enterica is able to be disseminated in the mammalian hosts. Here, LY75 is linked to infection.
