HRH2 and ulcer disease: Kim et al. (2005) found that orally administered ethanolic C. longa extract decreased stomach acid, gastric juice secretion, and ulcer initiation in male rats by inhibiting H2 histamine receptors, which is similar to the effects of ranitidine. Similarly, the antiulcer action of C. longa ethanolic extract was seen as it lowers ulcer index in addition to stomach acidity significantly. C. longa extract also suppressed hypothermic-restraint stress depletion of stomach wall mucus and diminished the severity of necrotizing agent-induced lesions.
