Even though the development of SV2A tracers was motivated by epilepsy research, only three articles have been published to date in this area: two clinical proof-of-concept studies about the ability of [11C]UCB-J radiotracer to detect a decrease in synaptic density in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy and unilateral mesial temporal sclerosis (Finnema et al., 2016, 2020), and one preclinical study exploring in vivo changes in SV2A during the development of temporal lobe epilepsy (Serrano et al., 2020). Here, SV2A is linked to temporal lobe epilepsy.
