Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and multiple candidate gene studies have reported GCKR variants to be associated with several metabolic parameters, including triglyceride (TG) levels [11–16], insulin resistance and fasting plasma glucose (FPG) levels [14, 15, 17] as well as metabolic disorders like T2DM [12, 15, 17], dyslipidemia (high TG and low high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels) [11, 13]. Here, GCKR is linked to metabolic syndrome.
