The efficacy of HC in inhibiting prostate tumour xenografts and chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) cells is suggested to be attributed to its selective prooxidant activity by reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and induction of caspase-mediated apoptosis (Gundala et al., 2014) and/or by caspase-independent manner via apoptosis inducing factor (AIF) (Chowdhury et al., 2013) to eliminate cancer cells. This evidence concerns the gene AIFM1 and chronic myelogenous leukemia, BCR-ABL1 positive.
