miR-99b-5p has also been found to be abnormally expressed in the brains of a mouse model for Alzheimer’s disease, affecting neuron survival via the mTOR pathway in response to amyloid β-induced endoplasmic reticulum stress (Ye et al., 2015) and has been implicated in rat models of stress resilience (Chen et al., 2015) and transient cerebral ischemia (Altintas et al., 2016). This evidence concerns the gene MTOR and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
