IFNG and bacterial infectious disease: As shown in Figure 4, patients with confirmed bacterial infection presented much higher levels of CRP (median, 103.2 mg/L vs. 49.5 mg/L vs. 54.3, p = 0.003), IL-6 (median, 553.0 pg/ml vs. 74.5 pg/ml vs. 117.5 pg/mL, p < 0.001), and IL-10 (median, 22.6 pg/ml vs. 10.0 pg/ml vs. 11.5 pg/ml, p = 0.002) than those with viral or fungal infection, while PCT (median, 0.74 ng/ml vs. 0.34 ng/ml vs. 0.49 ng/ml, p = 0.108), TNF-α (median, 2.0 pg/ml vs. 1.3 pg/ml vs. 1.7pg/ml, p = 0.057), and IFN-γ (median, 5.9 pg/ml vs. 6.5 pg/ml vs. 4.7 pg/ml, p = 0.423) levels were comparable.
