In a pancreatic cancer cell model, elevated expression of the trans-Golgi network isoform NHE7 resulted in hyperacidification of Golgi lumen and activation of plasma membrane Na+/H+ exchange (22), mimicking NHE1-mediated regulation of cytosolic pH and extracellular acidification common to a wide range of cancer types.
