Tang et al. conducted an animal trial to provide an explanation for the impact of sleep deprivation on the severity of DED and showed that sleep deprivation induces dry eye through abnormal superficial corneal epithelial cell (SCEC) microvilli morphology, which is caused by sequential downregulation of PPARα, TRPV6 expression, and ezrin phosphorylation status in mice [35]. Here, TRPV6 is linked to dry eye syndrome.
