Given that PIP5K1α is a predominant kinase to produce phosphatidylinositol 4,5-trisphosphate PI(4,5)P2 (PIP2) for the activation of PI3K/AKT pathways (Loijens and Anderson, 1996; Barrero-Villar et al., 2008; van den Bout and Divecha, 2009), this implicates that PIP5K1α is a key player of the signaling cascades that promote cancer cell proliferation, survival and invasiveness. Here, PIP5K1A is linked to cancer.
