High intake of free sugar from soft drinks was associated with higher fasting insulin level (1.06%; 95% CI, 0.30%–1.84%; P = 0.006) and HOMA-IR insulin resistance (1.01%; 95% CI, 0.19%–1.84%; P = 0.02) compared with the lowest intake category. Intake of naturally occurring sugar from solid foods was not associated with any outcome. After adjusting for covariates, associations were not significant for all states and forms of sugars. This evidence concerns the gene INS and Insulin resistance.
