Amongst the five significant targets affected by the miRNA-associated SNPs, the master regulator of miRNA biogenesis DROSHA is the core nuclease that processes primary (pri-miRNAs) to precursor (pre-miRNAs) in the nucleus and a failure in suppressing Drosha leashes a massive synthesis of mature miRNAs that dynamically deregulate the normal tumor suppressor gene (tsg) signaling pathways and thereby increase the risk of breast cancer [54, 55].
