PVALB and schizophrenia: Though the mechanism is not known, reduced parvalbumin expression is associated with a number of psychiatric disorders (ASD, schizophrenia) (Filice et al., 2020; Ruden et al., 2021) and can cause increased network synchronization/enhanced PV IN output by enhancing facilitation and shortening delayed transmitter release in INs that are deficient in PV expression (Collin et al., 2005; Muller et al., 2007; Manseau et al., 2010; Orduz et al., 2013).
