CREB1 and schizophrenia: Ren et al. (2014) studied the expression and function of CREB protein and mRNA in the prefrontal cortex and cingulate gyrus. They found that the expression and activity of CREB protein and mRNA in the cingulate gyrus were lower in schizophrenic patients than in control subjects, suggesting that CREB abnormalities in the cingulate gyrus may be related to schizophrenia. It has been speculated that CREB gene polymorphisms may be involved in abnormal CREB function and may be related to schizophrenia (Ren et al., 2014; Forero et al., 2016).
