Because sgp130 binds to sIL-6R/IL-6 and blocks sIL-6R/IL-6 trans-signaling-induced endogenous anti-inflammatory activity in endothelial cells (such as SOCS-3 induction) [14,28,29,30], increased sgp130 production could be considered an indicator of reduced anti-inflammatory activity in preeclampsia.
