TJP1 and infection: In contrast, during early infection, lateral membranes of host cells were still visible and separating their cytoplasm (Figs. 2a and 4b) and tight junctions were still present on infected cells, but had disappeared in the cells left behind in the tunnel as indicated by the presence or absence of ZO-1 stain, in caecaloids (Fig. 4c, II and 7a, Supplementary Movie 5).
