Although initially developed and clinically implemented for the diagnosis of prion diseases, the RT-QuIC platform has been adapted more recently to the detection of seeds of αSyn and tau associated with synucleinopathies [e.g., Parkinson’s disease (PD), dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), multiple system atrophy (MSA)] and tauopathies [e.g., Alzheimer’s disease (AD), chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), Pick’s disease (PiD), Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), and corticobasal syndrome (CBS)]. The gene discussed is MAPT; the disease is Parkinson disease.
