HH is primarily characterized by iron overload, but other factors including the Hfe gene and the iron regulatory hormone, hepcidin, are also perturbed, and these factors have been thought to play an important role in DOX cardiotoxicity (Levy et al., 1999; Miranda et al., 2003; Cocco et al., 2013; Rockley, 2018). This evidence concerns the gene HFE and Tangier disease.
