Recently, Raghavan et al. demonstrated that ovarian cancer spheroids derived from cells that survived chemotherapy (cisplatin) displayed lower ALDH expression, complete loss of CD133 expression, and resistance to cisplatin/ALDH inhibitor combination treatment while spheroids that were resistant to cisplatin/JAK2 inhibitor combinations contained an increased number of ALDH+ cells (Raghavan et al., 2017; Chefetz et al., 2019). The gene discussed is PROM1; the disease is ovarian cancer.
