As regard, of note, loss of function mutations in the human sialic acid acetylesterase (SIAE) gene, responsible for a reduced expression of sialic-acid ligands for Siglec-2 and Siglec-10, were detected in several autoimmune conditions, namely, T1D, polyendocrine syndromes and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) (18–20). The gene discussed is SIAE; the disease is rheumatoid arthritis.
