These findings argue against impaired activation of mTOR or mTOR to S6K1 signaling in impairing protein synthesis in skeletal muscle of humans with obesity, either in the fasted state (Bak et al., 2016; Tran et al., 2016) or in the presence of nutrients that stimulate protein synthesis in muscle (Beals et al., 2016). The gene discussed is MTOR; the disease is obesity disorder.
