These findings argue against impaired activation of mTOR or mTOR to S6K1 signaling in impairing protein synthesis in skeletal muscle of humans with obesity, either in the fasted state (Bak et al., 2016; Tran et al., 2016) or in the presence of nutrients that stimulate protein synthesis in muscle (Beals et al., 2016). This evidence concerns the gene MTOR and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
