Since both FGF2 and GPC1 are key components of tumor progression for a wide range of cancer types (Akl et al., 2016; Pan and Ho, 2021), we propose that the prominent function of GPC1 in driving efficient unconventional secretion of FGF2 might play a key role for tumor development such as acute myeloid leukemia (Traer et al., 2016; Javidi-Sharifi et al., 2019). This evidence concerns the gene GPC1 and acute myeloid leukemia.
