SKP1 and cervical squamous intraepithelial neoplasia: As detailed above, several genetic studies performed in both malignant (Thompson et al., 2020) and non-malignant (Lepage et al., 2021) human cell contexts have established that reduced SKP1 expression induces CIN, an enabling hallmark of cancer (Hanahan and Weinberg, 2011) associated with cellular transformation, intra-tumoral heterogeneity, metastasis, drug resistance and poor patient outcomes (reviewed in (Geigl et al., 2008; Vishwakarma and McManus, 2020)).
