Polymorphisms that independently increased the odds of obesity were found in the genes for uncoupling protein 1 (rs1800592 [OR = 1.52, CI: 1.10–2.08, p = 0.009]); the fat‐mass and obesity‐associated gene (rs1421085 [OR = 1.56, CI: 1.04–2.34, p = 0.03]), and melanocortin‐4 receptor (rs17782313 [OR = 1.72, CI: 1.02–2.89, p = 0.038]). This evidence concerns the gene UCP1 and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
