Cytokines, secreted by T helper type 2 (Th2) cells, such as IL-4 and IL-5, are the major pathological feature of allergic disease, including food allergy.22 Especially, IL-4 promotes the production of allergen-specific IgE and activates mast cells to mediate type 1 inflammation in food allergy23.
