Although the basic levels of angiogenic factors do not differ between asymptomatic and filarial lymphedema (lymphatic pathology) patients, the cells from lymphedema patients produce higher levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-C [127] and NF-κB activation has a role in elevated angiogenic growth factor production, and associated pathology, in these patients [127]. The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is lymphedema.
