Treatment with first-generation DNMT inhibitors such as 5-azacytidine (5-aza) and 5-aza-2′-deoxycytidine (decitabine) induced the expression of tumour suppressor genes (TSGs), partially recovered HCC cells differentiation, reduced tumorigenicity and enhanced the sensitivity to sorafenib [208, 209]. This evidence concerns the gene DNMT1 and hepatocellular carcinoma.
