In another translational study including patients admitted in ICU with severe sepsis, it was found that median serum and urine Gal-3 levels at admission were higher for patients with AKI (AKI vs. non-AKI serum: 18.37 vs. 8.08 ng/mL, p < 0.001; AKI vs. non-AKI urine: 13.27 vs. 6.27 ng/mL, p < 0.001), with a good prediction performance for AKI (AUC of 0.88 for serum Gal-3 and 0.87 for urine Gal-3) [73]. This evidence concerns the gene LGALS3 and acute kidney injury.
