A recent study in different mouse models based on the injection of C-26 murine adenocarcinomas or Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC) cells into BALB/c and C57BL/6 or Ager −/− (RAGE-null) mice reported that activation of the receptor for advanced glycation end-products (RAGE) by the S100 calcium-binding protein B (S100B) was able to induce muscle wasting and that the signaling pathway involved was the p38 MAPK/myogenin axis and signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) 3-dependent MyoD degradation [39]. The gene discussed is AGER; the disease is lung carcinoma.
