In view of the increased mRNA expression of ZIC1 in stressed and high-turnover bone, a possible difference in ZIC1 DNA methylation, as well as an association between ZIC1 expression, BMD and osteoporosis was sought in a previously characterised cohort comprised of Norwegian postmenopausal osteoporotic women (n = 40) and healthy control subjects (n = 29) (Supplementary Table S3) [16,17]. This evidence concerns the gene ZIC1 and osteoporosis.
