Syndromic ASD is caused by specific genes, predominantly transcription factors and cofactors such as PAX6, PITX2, and FOXC1 [2,3,4,5,6,7,8], that are critical for the development of many tissues, including ocular, neuronal, craniofacial, dental, cardiac, and renal. The gene discussed is FOXC1; the disease is atrial septal defect.
