Several genes were recognised targets of those microRNAs, and at least two (LOX, VEGFA) were already known to be involved in GBM tumourigenesis: LOX, a cofactor of HIF-1 which helps tumour cell to adapt to hypoxia [9], and VEGFA, known to be upregulated in older GBMs [10]. The gene discussed is LOX; the disease is glioblastoma.
