The applied 3D cell model, which is composed of CCD-1137Sk fibroblasts, HaCaT keratinocytes and SK-MEL 28 melanoma cells [14,15], was previously shown to recapitulate basic features of early melanoma, i.e., radial growth phase and early vertical growth phase, including loss of keratinocyte differentiation, melanoma cell invasion, and cytostatic-induced increase of ABCB5 expression in external melanoma cells [14]. The gene discussed is ABCB5; the disease is melanoma.
