PARP1 and myocardial infarction: Liu et al. observed that the overexpression of miR-223 reduces cell apoptosis by inhibition of poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP-1) in rats with myocardial infarction and in hypoxia-treated neonatal rat cardiomyocytes (NRCMs); PARP-1 is a downstream target of miR-223 and these researchers found that silencing PARP-1 can protect cardiomyocytes from hypoxia [73].
