IL-6 is a cytokine/adipokine involved in inflammatory signaling and glucose and lipid pathways, in addition to being activated by the STAT3 transcription factor (signal transducer and activator of transcription 3) and suppressed by SOCS3 (suppressor of cytokine signaling 3) [94,95], which is associated with insulin resistance [96] by inhibiting IRS-1 phosphorylation in adipose tissue [96,97].
