Besides the increased proliferation of Atg7ΔHepFgf21−/− mice compared to Atg7ΔHepFgf21+/+ mice probably due to further increased YAP1 signaling, we studied other possible mechanisms of increased tumorigenicity of Atg7ΔHepFgf21−/− liver, since an increased number of hepatoma in Atg7ΔHepFgf21−/− mice compared to Atg7ΔHepFgf21+/+ mice suggested increased initiation of tumor in addition to increased proliferation. This evidence concerns the gene YAP1 and hepatocellular carcinoma.
