SIRT1 and diabetic kidney disease: Importantly, SIRT1-mediated deacetylation of PGC-1α could ameliorate HG-induced podocyte damage (Cai et al., 2016; Zhang et al., 2019) and resveratrol, an activator of SIRT1, demonstrated significant protection of mitochondrial function in diabetic mice with DKD through SIRT1/PGC-1α-regulated attenuation of mitochondrial oxidative stress (Zhang et al., 2019; Wang F. et al., 2020).
