Figure 3 graphically illustrates associations between different predictor variables and the competing risks of death and dementia. Predicted average time with dementia (equivalent to area under the curve) varied considerably across the 12 predictor variable groups from a maximum of 3.35 (95% CI 2.64–4.06) years in APOE ɛ4 carrier high amyloid women to 0.75 (95% CI 0.51–0.99) years in APOE ɛ4 non-carrier normal amyloid women (Supplementary Table 3). The gene discussed is APOE; the disease is dementia.
