A large body of evidence suggests that melatonin has a protective effect during the development of kidney disease, at least in part by counteracting the effects of intrarenal renin-angiotensin system activation, prompting the need for further research into the roles of melatonin and angiotensinogen in renal injury (Campos et al., 2013; Baltatu et al., 2017; Ohashi et al., 2019). Here, AGT is linked to kidney disorder.
