Taketa et al., found that after binding with Lens culinaris agglutinin in the serum of patients with primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), AFP was separated into three bands by electrophoresis, which were named AFP-L1, AFP-L2, and AFP-L3, namely, the unbinding type of LCA (AFP-L1, AFP-L2) and the binding type of LCA (AFP-L3) [9]. Here, AFP is linked to hepatocellular carcinoma.
