In one study (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT01277315), anakinra, a recombinant IL-1 receptor antagonist that blocks IL-1β-mediated inflammatory signaling, was used in 19 ALS patients, of which 4 were known to carry a mutation in C9orf72 gene [271].
