Interestingly, the tumour cells (identified by EpCAM expression) expressed very high levels of the mesenchymal CRC markers ZEB1 and HTR2B, which can be used to distinguish mesenchymal-like CRC (now commonly referred to as CMS4) from non-mesenchymal CRC [4] (Fig. 5b and Supplementary Fig. S8).
