Kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1), a type-1 cell surface glycoprotein, is expressed at a low level in the kidney, but it is highly overexpressed in injured renal tubule cells including human renal cell carcinoma, and it is considered an early marker for kidney cancer (Scelo, et al., 2018). The gene discussed is HAVCR1; the disease is renal cell carcinoma.
