Kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1), a type-1 cell surface glycoprotein, is expressed at a low level in the kidney, but it is highly overexpressed in injured renal tubule cells including human renal cell carcinoma, and it is considered an early marker for kidney cancer (Scelo, et al., 2018). Here, HAVCR1 is linked to hereditary clear cell renal cell carcinoma.
