Recent studies suggest that some single nucleotide polymorphisms may decrease suppression of CYP2C19 expression and boost metabolism of some CYP2C19-metabolized SSRIs, including escitalopram and citalopram, and even alter improvement trajectories in escitalopram and citalopram-treated adults with depressive disorders (Qin et al., 2020). The gene discussed is CYP2C19; the disease is depressive disorder.
