BCL2 and acute myeloid leukemia: BCL2 inhibitors (venetoclax was approved by the FDA on November 21, 2018, in combination with azacitidine or decitabine or low-dose cytarabine for the treatment of newly-diagnosed AML in adults aged 75 years or older 9) and Bromodomain and extra-terminal (BET) protein inhibitors (showing promising results in recent clinical trials 10), both of which induce apoptosis, are also offering hope for AML patients.
