In addition to slightly elevated Troponin T, as a result of acute myocardial damage, Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is characterised by a marked increase in plasma levels of B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) and N-terminal prohormone of B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) with its subsequent peak elevation within 24–48 h after onset of initial symptoms. Here, NPPB is linked to Tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy.
