IGHE and food allergy: Several researchers have suggested genetic linkage markers and immunologic factors, such as elevated cord blood and infancy IgE levels, food-specific IgE, lower-interferon/interleukin-4 ratio, and elevated levels of inflammatory cells (e.g., peripheral blood and nasal eosinophils and basophils) are associated with subsequent food allergy development, which may be useful in the diagnosis of high-risk infants (73–75).
