It has been shown that SARS-CoV-2-infected human monocytes, monocyte-derived macrophages, and dendritic cells in vitro, which potentially plays a major role in COVID-19 pathogenesis.16,17 However, whether SARS-CoV-2 infects lymphocytes, which do not express ACE2, to result in lymphopenia is still unknown. This evidence concerns the gene ACE2 and lymphopenia.
